Stop carb cravings & lose pounds effortlessly | Myo-Inositol & Berberine

“Can I order two desserts instead of dinner?” I often pleaded as a child.

My indulgent request was never granted, but the temptation has persisted my entire life. Even as an adult, no meal felt complete until consuming at least one morsel of something resembling dessert.

I dramatically reduced sugar intake last year, but still always craved “a little something” sweet after every meal. Carbs were also the focus of most of my snacking throughout each day.

Carb-aholic? Admittedly yes. But I never knew there was another way. I’d heard of people who claimed to not crave sweets, but I never believed it possible. Unicorns, I told myself.

Until three weeks ago…
Cut Carb Cravings Instantly | Myo-Inositol & BerberineI learned that myo-inositol and berberine can control cravings by helping with insulin resistance.

Never having struggled much with weight, I naively never considered insulin-anything could be an issue for me, but still, decided it was worth a try.

Skeptically, I took 1 capsule of each with dinner that evening. To my surprise, at the end of a small meal, I felt eerily satisfied and wasn’t left wanting more.

The next day, excited to continue, I took them with every meal and not once did I have an urge to consume extra carbs or sweets. What’s more, when eyeing the carb-rich snacks I used to crave, they didn’t seem appealing at all!

img_7177.jpgNot surprisingly, I effortlessly shed some pounds that I wasn’t sad to see go, and my energy levels increased.

As for no longer wanting to grab that piece of cake, utter disbelief are the only words that come to mind.

How do these amazing supplements work?!

They both target insulin resistance which, surprisingly, is estimated to affect more than 80 million Americans.

If you have extra weight in the midsection / abdomen, regardless of how much you weigh overall, insulin resistance may very well be the cause.

Scientists have several theories to explain the condition, but the one that makes sense to me is as follows:

insulin-resistance-e1524374340598.pngInsulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that helps unlock the body’s cells so that sugar (glucose) from the food we eat can be used by the cells for energy.

When a person has insulin resistance, cells do not respond properly to insulin and thus cannot easily absorb glucose from the bloodstream. As a result, the body needs higher levels of insulin to help glucose enter cells.

Simply stated, insulin resistance disrupts our ability to effectively regulate our sugar intake.

If you are insulin resistant your brain will not get the message that insulin is trying hard to convey (that you have high levels of sugar in your bloodstream).

In this way, insulin resistance promotes hunger. You eat and insulin is released, but your body tells you to eat some more despite the ability of insulin to act as a satiety hormone. [R]

This explanation exactly accounts for why I always craved carbs / desserts after every meal. And now, the two supplements I’m using are preventing my insulin issues and as a result, stopping my cravings.

Myo-inositol

1024px-citrus_fruits-1024x675.jpgMyo-inositol is a naturally occurring vitamin-like substance, made by our bodies, and sometimes called Vitamin B8.  It is very important for properly utilizing insulin and helping preventing insulin resistance. Some of it’s proven benefits are:

  • Mimicking the effects of insulin and enhancing insulin sensitivity [R, R2]
  • Stimulating glucose uptake in cells [R]
  • Decreasing high blood sugar levels after eating [R]
  • Promoting fat storage breakdown [R, R2]
  • Significantly reducing body mass and leptin (appetite control hormone) levels [R, R2]

A few of the most notable other benefits of myo-inosotol are it’s ability to reduce OCD, anxiety and panic attacks [R, R2] and decrease depression / increase serotonin. [R]

Additionally, it has the extra benefit of being very beneficial for people prone to binge or emotional eating. [R]

Berberine

Berberine is a compound that can be extracted from several different plants including barberry and goldenseal. Many studies show it can significantly reduce blood sugar levels. [R] Like myo-inosotol it also mimics insulin action by increasing the ability of the body to take up glucose. [R]

Additionally it can:

  • Decrease insulin resistance by increasing insulin receptor expression [R]
  • Improve insulin sensitivity by inhibiting fat storage [R]
  • Help break down sugars inside cells [R]
  • Inhibit production of glucose in the liver [R]
  • Increase beneficial bacteria in the gut [R]

Berberine helps manage insulin and blood sugar so well that according to a review of 14 studies, it’s as effective as popular diabetes drugs: metformin, glipizide and rosiglitazone. [R]

In one study of 116 diabetic patients, 1 gram of berberine per day lowered fasting blood sugar by 20%, or from diabetic to normal levels. [R]

IMG_6816Another study found that patients using 300 mg of berberine 3 times a day for 3 months had a 4 point decrease in body mass index (BMI) and they lost fat around the middle. [R]

How I take them

At the beginning of each meal or large snack, I take:

  • 1 capsule of myo-inositol – 500 mg (4x per day)
  • 1/2 capsule of berberine – 250 mg (3-4x per day)
    • Note: the Berberine I use is 900 mg for TWO caps

Links are provided to the products I’m using, however, you can use any brand as long as you verify that it’s myo-inositol.

1Because I’ve been asked… for the berberine, I’m opening a 450 mg capsule and discarding about half of it (I do NOT suggest tasting the powder!) There are only two brands I found that sell 250 mg and they cost more than twice as much. You also could simply take 2 full caps a day, I just prefer to spread it out and take less.

Commonly accepted upper limits are 4 g myo-inositol and 1.5 g berberine. Some people take very high amounts of myo-inositol (8-16 g per day) for OCD and PCOS, but since I prefer to take the minimum effective dose and these doses work perfectly – I did not raise it beyond 2 grams.

It really works!

I’ve been so excited about how well these supplements work together that I’ve encouraged several close friends to try them as well. In every case so far, they’re equally astonished and report the same benefits.

Significantly reduced or eliminated cravings, resulting in lost pounds.

img_7180If you find it difficult to pass a sweet shop without longingly ogling the window, or can’t go without an afternoon bag of chips, those cravings may very likely be caused by insulin resistance.

If so, chances are excellent that you will also find relief with these two miracle supplements.

Like I was, you’re probably thinking it’s impossible, but I’ve never before enjoyed salads or lean protein meals like I do now.

I can honestly say myo-inositol and berberine have changed my entire relationship with food in ways I never imagined possible. I’ve also been feeling greater contentment with life in general, which is most likely due to the other benefits of myo-inositol.

Every day, I catch glimpses of the snack foods I used to eat… ice cream, potato chips, crackers, cookies, cheesecake, even cereal, sitting abandoned in my freezer and pantry. Unbelievably, I have not once been tempted to eat any of them.

To me, that’s an incredible payoff from such a simple solution!

If you suspect insulin resistance could be fueling your cravings, I truly hope you’ll consider giving these two supplements a try.

Cheers to our good health!

  1. The picture and link you posted of the Berberine supplement shows it’s 900mg. If you cut that in half as you suggested it’s 450mg. I’m confused at how you came up with 250mg. I’m only asking because I’m interested in trying it and would like to start with a lower dose so I’m wondering if you’re taking 250 or 450.
