How we completely eliminated our hot flashes and sleep troubles, naturally! | Apigenin

2 Friends. 1 herbal pill. 0 Hot Flashes!

About 4 months ago, a friend and I were commiserating about the hot flashes we experienced every day and how we were tossing and turning at night, never feeling truly rested.

We hadn’t yet found any of the typical herbal supplements for perimenopause to work well enough to eliminate our symptoms and didn’t want to use HRT.

We tried many supplements ~ Black Cohosh, fenugreek, vitex, soy flavenones, spearmint, the list goes on..

They all helped somewhat, but we both still had moderate hot flashes throughout the day and suffered from interrupted, light sleep.

We just figured it was inevitable.

Until…

I was listening to a popular health vlogger and heard him mention the many benefits of Apigenin.

Apigenin, a natural flavone, is widely distributed in plants such as celery, parsley and chamomile.

Higher intake of apigenin could reduce the risk of chronic diseases. It has gained particular interest in recent years as a beneficial, health-promoting agent with low intrinsic toxicity.

Apigenin exerts anxiety reducing effects when consumed in high doses. At even higher doses, it may be sedative.

He raved about how calming it can be and I immediately wondered if it could help my daughter with sleep.

Note: Apigenin is much stronger than chamomile.

When it arrived, I took one myself to see what I noticed.

I felt very calm! Almost as if a giant fluffy blanket calmed my brain.

I gave one to my daughter and she too, was very calm!

I decided I would take it in the evenings to see if it would help me sleep more deeply.

To my surprise, it did. Tremendously. Far exceeding my expectations!

But even more remarkably, after 2 nights I realized I had no hot flashes since I began taking it!

I asked my friend to give it a try. I didn’t tell her much other than it stopped my hot flashes and asked her to notice how she felt.

She reported back with the same exact findings!

Not only no hot flashes but her brain felt clearer, she felt as if her metabolism was increasing and also was sleeping better than she had in years!

As we stood in my kitchen, comparing experiences, we stared wide eyed at one another, both realizing how huge this discovery could be!

In my research, I didn’t read anything about it helping hot flashes.

I found a study about it increasing estrogen in mice:

The estrogenic effects of apigenin, phloretin and myricetin

However, another article, Apigenin and it’s Numerous Health benefits claims it can potentially increase testosterone and decrease estrogen.

And this article says women taking HRT should not also take Apigenin.

Finally there is a study titled, “The Flavonoid Apigenin is a Progesterone Receptor Modulator with In Vivo Activity in the Uterus

It states, “Apigenin is a flavonoid with well-documented anti-cancer properties; however, its mechanisms of action are still unclear.”

“We previously identified apigenin as a potential phytoprogestin, a natural product with a chemical scaffold that interacts with the progesterone receptor.”

This study also classifies apigenin as a weak phytoestrogen.

Typically, I write blog posts about well researched supplements and provide links to studies to demonstrate the mechanisms of action and expected results.

This time, there isn’t anything to show in reference to hot flashes.

From the above study it could be inferred that some of it’s hormonal effects can result in decreased perimenopause and menopause symptoms.

And from the small sample of my 4 friends, who it has helped in exactly the same way, we think it can’t be a coincidence.

One friend experimented and stopped taking it for a few days. Her hot flashes and poor sleep returned the very next day and continued until she restarted it several days later… at which point they were gone again.

We all also noticed that after about 2 months, the hot flashes did very mildly start to randomly reappear. Especially at times with mild anxiety or significant indoor to outdoor temperature changes.

At this point, we decided to take 2 per day.

One at bedtime, and one 12 hours from bedtime.

All slight symptoms disappeared again and so far have remained absent.

I can’t say if Apigenin is for you.

I can say that none of us would ever go without it and it’s been responsible for significant life improvements in the short time we’ve all been taking it.

Some articles mention that it could also help with skin elasticity / wrinkles (among any other benefits) and I have noticed the same!

Brand does matter.

One friend experimented by switching from the Liposomal brand we all took to an alternate brand and it was as if she had stopped taking it altogether!

If you’re going to try it, I can’t more highly recommend using Liposomal Apigenin

“Apigenin has limited bioavailability, but is more available than other common flavonoids, such as quercetin and luteolin.” (R)

Which could explain why Liposomal is critical.

Here’s an amazon link to the product we had success with:

Codeage Liposomal Apigenin ($30)

Did we think we were far too young for hot flashes?

Yes!

Did we think we would cure them with just one natural pill?

No. Not in a million!

This one could be worth a try.
